Key Points
- Vitalik Buterin, a proponent of user privacy in crypto transactions, has been utilizing crypto mixer Railgun.
- Buterin has moved a total of 662 ETH, valued at $1.91 million, to Railgun in the past ten months.
Vitalik Buterin, a champion of user privacy in cryptocurrency transactions, has been employing crypto mixers like Railgun.
He previously used Tornado Cash, but due to sanctions, he switched to Railgun.
Buterin’s Transfers to Railgun
This isn’t the first instance of Buterin transferring a portion of his Ethereum (ETH) holdings to Railgun.
Railgun, like Tornado Cash, helps to conceal user identities and transactions.
According to the Web3 analytics platform SpotonChain, Buterin has moved a total of 662 ETH, worth $1.91 million, to Railgun over the past ten months.
Railgun differs from Tornado Cash in that it employs the Privacy Pool protocol, a concept Buterin introduced in an academic paper.
This protocol allows users to create cryptographic proofs while verifying funds’ origins and maintaining privacy.
Only malicious actors, such as the North Korea-backed Lazarus Group, would lack these proofs, potentially aiding law enforcement in identifying and blocking them.
Buterin has stated that Railgun’s use of the privacy pools protocol makes it difficult for bad actors to join the pool without compromising users’ privacy.
Buterin’s New Domain Registration
According to the Ethereum Name Services (ENS), Buterin has registered a new domain, “dacc.eth,” where “dacc” stands for “defensive accelerationism.”
This concept focuses on the proactive development of crucial technological innovations like privacy protection and cybersecurity to foster free and healthier governance.
The ENS record shows that Buterin registered this domain on Sunday, August 18.
It remains to be seen what Buterin intends to do with this domain, but it underscores his emphasis on privacy-related solutions.
