Altcoins Volume Nears 4x Bitcoin, a Familiar Pattern Emerges?
Altseason news is gaining a sharper edge as altcoin spot volume nears four times Bitcoin’s. Glassnode says the ratio has reached its highest level in about a year. Similar spikes have appeared around previous local Bitcoin tops, adding a fresh layer to the market’s current rotation debate.
Altcoins spot volume is nearing 4x Bitcoin’s, its highest ratio in about a year, according to Glassnode.
Similar volume spikes have appeared near previous local Bitcoin tops, though the data does not predict another top.
Altseason signals are strengthening, with broader gains across major altcoins and rising trading activity beyond Bitcoin.
Altcoin news took a new turn on September 28 as trading activity moved towards higher-risk assets. Glassnode reported that altcoin spot volume approached four times Bitcoin’s volume. That marked the highest ratio since September 2025.
The move is notable because Bitcoin has traditionally dominated spot trading activity. Now, altcoins are generating considerably more volume across the market.
Glassnode framed the shift around trader behavior rather than price performance. “Spot traders are turning to altcoins,” the analytics firm said. It added that demand for higher-risk assets has often aligned with local Bitcoin tops.
That does not mean the latest reading confirms a market peak. It does show a pattern that has appeared during previous Bitcoin cycles.
Traders Are Looking Beyond Bitcoin
The size of the volume gap is the important part. Altcoin spot activity is now almost four times Bitcoin’s reported level. Volume, however, does not measure net buying by itself. Every completed trade contains both a buyer and a seller.
That makes the latest reading more nuanced than a simple rotation headline. Higher volume can signal stronger participation without confirming which side dominates.

Still, the concentration of activity matters for market structure. Glassnode’s observation shows traders are spending more time on riskier assets. That shift can also influence how the wider market behaves around Bitcoin.
The pattern has historical relevance, but history is not a forecast. Glassnode did not say the current reading guarantees another Bitcoin top.
Altcoins Add Another Layer to the Altseason Debate
The latest volume reading arrives as altseason indicators strengthen across the market. BlockInsider reported that Glassnode’s cycle signal had flipped into altcoin season. The CoinMarketCap Altcoin Season Index reached 49 from 32 one week earlier.
That broader move has also appeared in three-month performance data. BlockInsider said 91 of the top 100 cryptocurrencies were higher over that period.
Solana, Cardano and Ether were among the larger assets showing substantial gains. Their three-month gains reached 69.40%, 66.82% and 65.14%, respectively. The numbers give the current altseason discussion more depth. Trading activity is rising, while performance is also broadening beyond Bitcoin.
Yet the recovery remained uneven beneath the headline gains. BlockInsider reported that less than 25% of the median altcoin supply was profitable. More than three-quarters remained below their on-chain cost basis. That distinction matters when reading the latest altcoin news. A token can post strong gains while many holders remain underwater.
Bitcoin Price Still Anchors the Market
Bitcoin price remains the central reference point for this rotation. BlockInsider reported Bitcoin price holding around $84,000 on September 29. U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs also recorded $2.39 billion in weekly inflows.
The data shows institutional Bitcoin demand did not disappear. At the same time, altcoin activity became much more prominent. This created a market with two distinct signals.
Bitcoin continues attracting investment through regulated products. Altcoins are generating much more spot trading activity. The latest altcoin news therefore does not describe a simple exit from Bitcoin. It describes a wider market participating more aggressively outside BTC.
Another BlockInsider report highlighted gains across the market. on September 28. It found 91 of the top 100 coins higher over three months. The report also noted gains across ZEC, NEAR, XRP, and LIT.
A separate BlockInsider watchlist also placed Solana among five altcoins under attention. That adds another indication that market focus has expanded beyond Bitcoin. Moreover, the latest altcoin news also includes sharper individual moves. Quant jumped 95% after its reported role with The Clearing House. The Clearing House processes more than $2 trillion in payments daily.
Sui also posted a weekly gain approaching 44%. Its move followed a breakout above the $1.086 level, according to BlockInsider. Those moves can contribute heavily to aggregate trading volume. They also show why volume ratios can change quickly during broad market rallies.
