Bitcoin breaks above $85,000 as bullish signals intensify. Discover the key resistance levels, whale activity, and what may come next for BTC.

Bitcoin just touched a level it hasn't seen since January. The breakout happened Sunday into Monday as geopolitical tensions suddenly eased.
Traders, analysts, and whales all reacted within hours of the move. The rally now has technicians eyeing the next major resistance zone. Here's what's driving the surge and where price could head.
A major geopolitical de-escalation sparked renewed confidence over the weekend. The US reportedly abandoned a large military operation it had prepared. That shift triggered $618 million in net taker volume on derivatives desks. Markets reacted almost immediately once this news began circulating widely across trading desks.
CryptoQuant data shows this volume wiped out a significant share of Bitcoin shorts. Traders caught leaning bearish were forced to cover rapidly. The squeeze added fuel to an already strengthening upward move.

Funding rates on major exchanges flipped positive within hours of the move.
Beyond the short squeeze, momentum indicators are flashing genuinely bullish signals. CryptoQuant analyst flagged the 2-year moving average as the next key test.
That level currently sits at $88,761, just above the current trading price.

Breaking through that resistance could trigger something more powerful. According to the analysis, a confirmed move above it may spark a highly strong, sustained bull trend. Bitcoin hasn't traded above that average consistently in some time.
Its last extended stay above the 2-year MA came during an earlier cycle high.
The breakout hasn't gone unnoticed among active traders either. On-chain trackers like Lookonchain flagged a large directional bet opened shortly after the move.
That kind of conviction trade often signals confidence beyond casual speculation. Large directional bets carry real capital and real risk behind them. Their timing, right after the breakout, adds weight to the bullish case.
Other on-chain trackers reported similar aggressive positioning across several separate large wallets.
Retail sentiment appears to be following a similar script. Social volume around Bitcoin has picked up noticeably since the move. Search interest and trading app downloads both ticked higher over the weekend.
Analysts tracking the move, including well-known trader Scott Melker, see this as structurally significant. The break above $85,000 confirms strength rather than a temporary spike.
BlockInsider analysis suggests Bitcoin's first major ceiling has now broken. The $83,796 barrier needed clearing for BTC to rally meaningfully further. Crossing above $85,000 has strengthened that breakout considerably.
However, retesting that level as support remains critically important going forward. Without a successful retest, the move risks becoming a simple fakeout. Traders should watch how the price behaves around $83,796 in the coming sessions. A firm hold there would go a long way toward confirming the trend.

If support holds, the next target sits at $90,000. Beyond that, $96,000 becomes the following resistance zone to watch. A clean break of both levels would confirm a genuine bull trend forming. Historically, moves of this size have often extended once initial resistance clears.
On the downside, a slip below $83,800 carries real risk. That move could expose Bitcoin to a resistance zone it previously struggled against. Such a breakdown might send price back below $80,000 entirely.
Traders managing risk should keep that level marked clearly on their charts.
