Bitcoin Price to $90K? Must Break This Level First

Bitcoin keeps hitting a wall at $84,000. ETF flows also turned positive again on Friday. Here is what has to happen before a run to $90,000.

Bitcoin is stuck under a resistance zone that one prominent analyst says will decide its next big move.
Michaël van de Poppe thinks a clean break above $84,000 could send BTC toward $90,000. Right now the price is a bit lower, near $82,795, after sellers pushed it back from that same level.
Van de Poppe shared his view in a post on X. “Naturally, I don’t see many reasons to be bearish on Bitcoin,” he wrote.
He said the price is up against a major resistance zone that has to break. Then he gave a clear target: “Breaking $84,000 is a trigger towards potentially $90,000.”
He also talked about the quiet price action. In his view, low volatility on BTC helps altcoins, and he expects the recent flow of money into those smaller tokens to continue.
That matters for traders who watch the whole market. When Bitcoin price trades sideways, money often moves into altcoins in search of faster gains. A breakout above $84,000 would bring the attention back to BTC.
ETF flows are mixed. SoSoValue data shows US spot Bitcoin ETFs pulled in $21.13 million in net inflows on October 9. That small gain came after two rough sessions. The funds lost $487.07 million on October 7 and another $244.13 million on October 8.
The week still ended in the red. Weekly net outflows came to $681.10 million. Before that, the funds had three straight weeks of inflows, with $241.09 million in the week ending October 2 and $2.39 billion the week before.
Total net assets stood at $105.84 billion on October 9, and cumulative net inflows reached $57.11 billion. Daily trading value fell to $1.44 billion, the lowest figure in the last seven sessions.
The short-term chart is bearish. BTC price couldn’t hold its recovery toward $84,000 and slipped to around $82,795. The bigger outlook shows a run of lower highs since the earlier drop from near $87,000. Sellers have been capping each bounce at a lower level.

The RSI readings sit near 20.7, 33.6, and 42.4. The shortest-period RSI is in oversold territory, so selling pressure is heavy. Oversold readings can lead to a quick bounce, but they don’t confirm a reversal by themselves.
The MACD histogram has turned negative, and the red bars are getting longer. That points to growing short-term selling pressure.
There are two clear paths from here. The bullish path is that Bitcoin holds above $82,000 and reclaims the $83,300 to $83,600 zone. That would open a retest of $84,000 to $84,350.
A stable move above $84,350 would line up with Van de Poppe’s trigger and show that buyers are back in control. From there, $90,000 becomes a realistic target.
The other scenario is if BTC breaks below $82,500 and fails to win it back, $82,000 is the next level to watch, followed by $81,000. Another drop would bring the $80,400 to $80,000 support zone back into play. Losing that area would push the $90,000 target further away.
For now, the $90,000 call depends on one thing. Bitcoin has to close above $84,000 and stay there. Until that happens, traders will likely keep watching the $82,000 floor as closely as the ceiling above it.
