Key Insights:

  • Pi Mainnet node operators must complete Protocol 26 by August 11 to remain connected.
  • Protocol 26 improves smart contract safety, data management, and blockchain interoperability across Pi Network.
  • The $0.10 level remains the key price target for PI traders after recent recovery.

Pi Network is facing a key network deadline on August 11, 2026, as Mainnet node operators must complete the Protocol 26 upgrade or lose network access. The update comes as PI token price struggles near $0.085.

However, this leaves traders wondering whether the upgrade can help the token return to the important $0.10 level.

Pi Mainnet Nodes Face an August 11 Deadline

The Protocol 26 upgrade is now a mandatory step for Pi Network’s Mainnet infrastructure. All Mainnet node operators running v25.2 must manually move to v26.1 by August 11.

Pi network Node operator that miss the deadline will lose Mainnet connectivity and validation access until they complete the update.

The change does not affect regular Pi users who only mine through the mobile app. The deadline mainly applies to people running the network’s infrastructure, with around 421,000 node operators involved.

The main goal is to keep Mainnet nodes on the same software version and make the transition to the next stage of the network smoother.

What Protocol 26 Brings to Pi Network

Protocol 26 is more than a normal software update. It is part of Pi Network’s wider move toward newer blockchain technology and is expected to be the penultimate upgrade before Protocol 27.

The update focuses on several areas, including better smart contract safety, stronger data and state management, improved cryptography and better support for blockchain interoperability.

This follows Protocol 25, which added BN254 cryptography and Poseidon hashing to support privacy-focused applications and zero-knowledge technology.

Pi has also been working on tools for developers. Earlier, the network introduced an RPC server on Testnet, allowing developers to build and test smart contracts. It has also been testing Launchpad features and ecosystem tokens.

Together, these changes show that Protocol 26 is part of a larger technical upgrade rather than a single isolated release.

PI Price Falls Despite Recent Recovery

The upgrade is arriving at a time when PI’s price remains weak. PI gained around 12% over the past week, reaching a local high near $0.096 as traders reacted to the upcoming network deadline and other ecosystem developments.

However, the token has since given back some of those gains. As of now, PI was trading around $0.08555, down about 3.72%, with its market value below $950 million.

That leaves $0.10 as the key level for traders. A move above $0.10 could open the door toward $0.11, while failure to hold current levels could keep PI under pressure.

The upgrade may provide short-term positive sentiment, but technical progress alone may not be enough to push the token higher.

Token Unlocks Could Limit PI’s Gains

One of the biggest challenges for PI is the amount of new supply entering the market.

Around 127.96 million PI tokens, worth roughly $10.56 million, are expected to unlock during August. That works out to about 6.5 million tokens per day. Another 132.7 million PI is expected to unlock in September.

This creates a major supply challenge because the market needs enough buying demand to absorb the new tokens. The pressure could continue beyond the summer. Around 775 million additional PI tokens are scheduled to unlock by December 2026.

With trading Pi network volumes currently around $7 million to $17 million over 24 hours, the market may struggle to absorb large amounts of new supply without putting pressure on the price.
