South Korea's largest trading company, POSCO International, has taken another step toward bringing real-world assets (RWAs) onchain by launching a pilot that tokenizes live trade receivables on the Injective blockchain.
Developed with LG CNS, the project moves beyond blockchain experiments by using actual commercial transactions, offering a glimpse into how tokenization could modernize global trade finance.
The pilot focuses on trade receivables, which are payments that buyers owe a company after goods have been delivered but before the invoice is settled.
These receivables are a critical part of international trade, yet they are still largely managed through disconnected banking systems, paper documents, and enterprise databases.
Instead of keeping these claims locked in traditional financial systems, POSCO is converting them into digital tokens on the Injective blockchain. Each token represents a real receivable generated from the company's overseas business operations, allowing ownership and settlement records to move digitally while remaining linked to an underlying commercial transaction.
Unlike many blockchain demonstrations that rely on simulated assets, this initiative is built around live trade data, making it one of the more practical enterprise tokenization pilots launched this year.
The project recreates the complete trade finance workflow using blockchain infrastructure.
When trade documents such as letters of credit and invoices are created, AI-powered systems developed by LG CNS automatically review and extract information from the documents.
This reduces manual processing while helping verify that the data is complete and consistent.
Once verified, each receivable is issued as a compliant digital asset on the Injective blockchain. The token can then be transferred, tracked, and settled between POSCO's global subsidiaries and business partners using a shared ledger instead of multiple disconnected systems.
Because every participant accesses the same blockchain record, ownership changes and payment status can be viewed in real time, reducing the reconciliation time that traditionally takes several days.
POSCO International, which generated $22.2 billion in revenue in 2025, provides the real commercial receivables and business workflows. As the enterprise using the system, it supplies the live transaction data flowing through its international trading network.
LG CNS, the technology arm of the LG Group, serves as the systems integrator. It connects POSCO's existing enterprise software with blockchain infrastructure while deploying AI tools that automate document verification and processing.
Meanwhile, Injective provides the blockchain settlement layer. Its Layer-1 network enables token issuance while allowing compliance rules, privacy controls, and transfer conditions to be embedded directly into digital assets.
Together, the three companies are testing whether blockchain can operate alongside existing corporate systems without disrupting day-to-day business operations.
POSCO International says it intends to move the platform into live production after the pilot concludes later this year if the results meet expectations.
The next phase could see tokenized receivables become part of the company's everyday trade operations while also expanding the use of blockchain-based settlement.
According to Citi, the tokenized asset market could reach $5.5 trillion by 2030, making trade finance one of the next major frontiers for real-world asset adoption.
If the POSCO pilot proves successful, it could provide a blueprint for how multinational companies use blockchain to modernize supply chain finance, improve liquidity, and make cross-border trade faster and more transparent.
