Quick Take:

  • Bitcoin price was at $78,075 on 2 November, down 2.5% over seven days and 7.7% over 30 days.
  • The Trader Realized Price, the average cost of coins that last moved one to three months ago, stood at $77,140 on 1 November, about $900 below spot.
  • The week brought a Fed hold at 3.75% to 4.00%, the $6.3 billion Binance hack and roughly $1.5 billion in liquidations; Bitcoin held the high $70,000s through all of it.
  • Polymarket traders give an 82.5% chance Bitcoin touches $80,000 in November and a 67.5% chance it touches $75,000.

Bitcoin price has had a week that should have broken it and did not. The Fed held rates at 3.75% to 4.00% on Wednesday, the largest exchange in the world lost $6.3 billion on Thursday, and about $1.5 billion in leveraged positions were liquidated in the hours after. BTC traded at $78,075 at 08:10 UTC on 2 November 2026, according to recent data from CoinGecko, down 2.5% on the week and 7.7% over 30 days, with a market cap of $1.57 trillion.

That it is still in the high $70,000s is the story. What happens next depends on a number most traders do not watch: the average price recent buyers paid, which now sits about $900 below spot.

A Week of Bad News and a Flat Chart

Monday and Tuesday were quiet, with BTC holding near $80,000 ahead of the Fed. The decision on Wednesday was a hold, with the target range unchanged at 3.75% to 4.00% after September's hike, and the Bank of Japan held the same day. Bitcoin barely moved on the statement.

Thursday was the test. Binance confirmed that an attacker had drained about $6 billion from its hot wallets across nine chains on Wednesday evening UTC, the largest theft in crypto's history. Total crypto market cap fell about 4.8% to $2.63 trillion in the hours after, according to CoinGecko's market summary, and liquidations reached roughly $1.5 billion. Bitcoin dipped toward $77,500, the level prediction markets had flagged as support two weeks earlier, and bounced.

By the weekend, Binance had re-enabled Bitcoin withdrawals and the stolen BTC, 18,270 coins parked across 19 addresses, had still not moved. Bitcoin closed October near $77,900 and opened November flat. Perpetual futures open interest stood at $66.9 billion on 2 November, according to CoinGecko, which is a lot of positioning for a market that has gone sideways for three weeks.

The Level That Matters: $77,140

An analyst flagged the metric in a post on X on 1 November. The Trader On-chain Realized Price is the average acquisition price of Bitcoin that last moved between one and three months ago. In plain terms, it is the average cost basis of people who bought recently. On 1 November it stood at $77,140 against a spot price of $77,880.

Why that matters is behavioural. "Historically, during bullish phases, the Trader Realized Price has often acted as support when price corrected toward it," the post said.

"When BTC falls below this level, however, the same cost basis can later act as resistance as underwater traders use a return to breakeven as an opportunity to exit."

The second half of that is the risk. If Bitcoin drops through $77,140 and fails to reclaim it, the buyers of August, September and October are underwater, and every bounce back to their entry becomes a selling opportunity rather than a dip to buy. That is how corrections turn into downtrends.

The post also noted something less obvious: the Trader Realized Price has been rising while Bitcoin has been falling, so the gap between the two has closed from both sides. That is what happens when a market absorbs selling at steadily higher average prices. It is constructive until it is not.

The post was careful not to overclaim. "This does not make $77.1K an automatic buy level," it wrote. "But it does make it an important area to watch for whether selling pressure is absorbed or whether recent holders begin moving into a more stressed position."

What to Expect in November

The calendar is lighter than October's. No Fed meeting until 8 and 9 December. The US jobs report lands on 6 November and CPI on 10 November, both of which feed December hike odds, which sat near 63% in mid-October. The Binance post-mortem and updated Proof of Reserves are due once remediation is complete, and the market will read both closely.

Prediction markets have priced a range. Polymarket traders gave Bitcoin a 93.7% chance of touching $77,500 at some point in November, which is close to certain given where it already trades, an 82.5% chance of $80,000, a 59.5% chance of $82,500 and a 41.5% chance of $85,000, according to odds displayed by CoinGecko on 2 November. On the downside, they put 67.5% on $75,000 and 47.5% on $72,500.

In the bullish scenario, Bitcoin holds above $77,140 through the jobs and CPI prints, the parked Binance coins stay parked, and a reclaim of $80,000 opens the $82,500 to $85,000 zone where October's rallies stalled. The Trader Realized Price would then have done what it does in healthy markets: held.

That said, in a bearish scenario, a hot CPI or the first on-chain movement of the stolen BTC pushes price through $77,140, and a failed retest turns recent buyers into sellers. $75,000 is the first level below, and Polymarket's 47.5% on $72,500 says the market takes that outcome seriously. Either way, with $66.9 billion in open positions and a cost basis $900 away, the first week of November is unlikely to stay this quiet.
