Quick Take

  • Bitcoin price traded at $80,839 at 19:50 UTC on 18 October, up 3.3% over seven days but 36% below its October 2025 record.
  • US spot Bitcoin ETFs lost a net $163 million between Monday and Thursday last week.
  • SpaceX and Tesla, which together hold more than 30,000 BTC, report earnings on Tuesday and Wednesday.
  • Friday's inflation expectations data lands with markets pricing a 63% chance of a December rate hike.

Bitcoin price spent last week trying to put $80,000 behind it and may have managed to break higher. BTC traded at $82,220.12 at 17:50 UTC on 19 October 2026, as per CoinGecko data. It was up 0.4% in 24 hours and down 1.3% across seven days. A month ago it was nearly where it is now, with a minor 30-day change of 1.3%.

That said, the wider picture is quieter than the price action suggests. Bitcoin's market cap stood at $1.625 trillion on $18.4 billion of 24-hour spot volume, while open interest in Bitcoin perpetual futures sat at $64.98 billion, as per the same CoinGecko data. That is a lot of borrowed conviction parked around a level the market has failed to hold on both sides this month.

So, with no Fed meeting on the calendar, what could actually move Bitcoin price this week? The Kobeissi Letter's weekly events list, posted on X on 18 October, points to six factors, and two of them belong to companies with Bitcoin on their balance sheets.

Bitcoin Price Starts the Week Without ETF Support

The spot ETF bid, which carried Bitcoin for most of 2025, has gone missing. US spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded a net outflow of $163 million through Monday to Thursday last week, as per data compiled by Farside Investors. Monday brought $175.7 million in, Tuesday took $261.4 million out, and Thursday saw another $82.4 million leave.

BlackRock's IBIT accounted for $100 million of the four-day outflow and Fidelity's FBTC for $60.2 million. Neither number is dramatic on its own. What matters is the direction: the buyers who set the floor in previous dips are, for now, net sellers.

That leaves Bitcoin price 36% below its all-time high of $126,210, set on 6 October 2025, with a year gone by since.

What Could Move Bitcoin Price This Week

The Kobeissi Letter lists six scheduled events, with roughly 15% of the S&P 500 reporting earnings over the same five days:

  1. September Pending Home Sales data on Tuesday
  2. SpaceX (SPCX) earnings on Tuesday
  3. Tesla (TSLA) and Meta (META) earnings on Wednesday
  4. Initial Jobless Claims on Thursday
  5. October Michigan Consumer Sentiment on Friday
  6. October Michigan Inflation Expectations on Friday

The Federal Reserve is not on that list because its next meeting falls on 27 and 28 October. However, the data this week feeds straight into it. The Fed raised rates by 25 basis points to a 3.75% to 4.00% range in September, and September CPI then came in at 3.7% year on year against a 3.6% forecast, according to Forbes, citing the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

CME FedWatch put the odds of a hold at the October meeting at about 66% as of 14 October, and the odds of another 25 basis point hike in December at about 63%, as per the same report. Friday's Michigan inflation expectations print is the one number this week that can shift those odds.

A hotter reading strengthens the case for a December hike, which is the opposite of what Bitcoin bulls want. A softer one gives risk assets room to breathe into the Fed meeting. Jobless claims on Thursday matter for the same reason. While a jump in claims would weaken the hiking argument, a steady print keeps it alive.

SpaceX and Tesla: Two Earnings Reports With a Bitcoin Line

This is where the week gets unusual for Bitcoin holders. SpaceX reports its third-quarter results on Tuesday, 20 October, its second earnings report as a public company. Its first, filed in August, confirmed holdings of 18,712 BTC custodied through Coinbase Prime, valued at $1.098 billion at the end of June, as per to Yahoo Finance, citing the company's SEC filing.

At $80,839, that position is worth about $1.51 billion. Tesla, which reports on Wednesday, holds 11,509 BTC, worth roughly $930 million at the same price. Between them, Elon Musk's two listed companies hold just over 30,000 BTC, or about $2.44 billion.

Both companies mark those holdings to market each quarter. Bitcoin ended September above where it ended June, so neither should book a Bitcoin loss for the quarter. The question analysts will ask on the calls is whether either company added, sold, or plans to. Any answer moves the treasury-company narrative that has been dormant since the ETF outflows began.

Meta carries no Bitcoin, but with Tesla and Meta reporting on the same evening, Wednesday sets the tone for risk appetite across US equities. Bitcoin's 30-day correlation with the Nasdaq has not broken this year, and a weak tech earnings night has tended to drag BTC with it.

Bitcoin Price Levels to Watch

Prediction markets have already priced the range. Polymarket traders gave Bitcoin an 84.5% chance of touching $80,000 before the end of October, a 44.5% chance of reaching $85,000 and a 23.5% chance of $87,500, according to Polymarket odds displayed by CoinGecko on 18 October. On the downside, they put a 49.5% chance on $77,500 and 27.5% on $75,000.

In the bullish scenario, Bitcoin price holds $80,000 through the SpaceX and Tesla calls and gets a soft inflation expectations print on Friday. That opens a run at $85,000, where the market has stalled twice since September, and would leave BTC entering the Fed week with momentum.

That said, in a bearish scenario, a hot Friday number or a disappointing tech earnings night pushes December hike odds higher and Bitcoin back below $80,000. The $77,500 level is the first stop prediction markets are watching, with $75,000 the line that would put the October range in question. Either way, with $65 billion of open positions sitting in perpetuals, the move out of this range is unlikely to be slow.
