BTC Price Could Hit $90,000 if This Key Condition Is Met

Bitcoin may be closer to a breakout than its recent price action suggests. Crypto analyst Michaël van de Poppe says the weekend dip looked like a normal correction, and that BTC price could push toward $90,000 once it clears its recent high.
The call comes at a difficult moment for the market. Spot Bitcoin ETFs in the US have posted two straight weeks of net outflows, and total net assets across the funds have dropped by more than $6 billion since early October.
In a post on X, Van de Poppe pushed back on the idea that the market has turned bearish. According to him,
“Bitcoin isn’t that bearish. It’s also not very bullish, yet. It just needs to take out the high, and then we’ll start to accelerate.”
He added that a green US open could help BTC price outperform after what he called “a classic correction on Sunday.” On the bigger picture, he sees no damage to the trend. He noted,
“To me, higher timeframe based, everything looks like it’s a normal correction before the next impulse move upwards to $90,000.”
The condition is simple. Bitcoin has to take out its recent high. Until that happens, Poppe treats the current bounce as a recovery attempt that still needs confirmation.
Institutional demand has cooled. Data from SoSoValue shows US spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $228.58 million in net outflows for the week ending October 16. That followed $681.10 million in outflows the week before, bringing the two-week total to about $909.68 million.

Daily flows swung back and forth all week. The funds took in $175.62 million on October 13, then lost $261.46 million on October 14, the largest single-day outflow of the week. October 15 brought a small $5.06 million inflow before another $82.39 million left on October 16.
Total net assets closed the week at $104.29 billion, down from $110.77 billion on October 5. Cumulative net inflows since launch slipped to $56.88 billion, while weekly trading volume came in at $10.11 billion.
Poppe’s chart shows BTC price trying to recover after its recent drop. The first test sits at the $82,900 to $83,500 resistance zone. A clean break above that area would help the recovery and put $84,150 in play.
That $84,150 level is the one Poppe watches most closely. A strong move above it is where he expects buying to pick up speed, with $85,270 as the next target on the chart. On the downside, immediate support is near $81,930. A rejection at resistance could send BTC back to that level.
Below it, $80,140 acts as major support, and losing it would expose the $79,000 to $80,000 region. If selling pressure increases, the chart points to $77,380 as the next floor.
The bullish possibility starts with a close above $83,500. If BTC price holds that level, a move toward $84,150 becomes likely. A strong breakout above $84,150 would help to hit $85,270, and from there Poppe’s larger $90,000 target comes into view.
The bearish possibility is just as clear. A failure at resistance and a drop below $81,930 could pull the price back to $80,140. For now, the Bitcoin price sits in a range with defined edges on both sides. Still, Poppe believes the higher timeframe structure looks intact.
If Bitcoin can hold above $84,150, the chances toward $90,000 open up. If it can’t, traders should expect more chop inside the current range.
