Crypto Markets Turn Green as 91 of Top 100 Coins Rise

Altcoins are finally adding width to the crypto market recovery, with 91 of the top 100 coins higher over three months even as profitability remains elusive.

The crypto markets are showing a broader recovery than they did earlier in the quarter. In a September 27 post, market analyst Ted Pillows said only nine of the top 100 cryptocurrencies were in the red over the previous three months. That leaves 91 assets higher over the same period.
Pillows described the shift as a long-awaited payoff for holders after months of weakness. His post said,
“After months of suffering, crypto holders are finally getting the pump they deserve.”
The striking part is not that a few tokens have rallied. It is the breadth of the move.
The crypto markets have spent much of the year moving in uneven waves. Bitcoin often led while large parts of the altcoin market lagged. That pattern has changed.
Glassnode’s altcoin cycle signal recently flipped from Bitcoin season to altcoin season.
The CoinMarketCap Altcoin Season Index had risen to 49 out of 100, compared with 32 one week earlier and 40 one month earlier. The reading had briefly reached 50 the previous day.
The performance spread also shows how wide the latest move has become. Over 90 days, PONS had gained 636.36%, while USELESS rose 350.75% and ZEC climbed 264.84%.
PUMP gained 224.61%. LIT, UNI, RAY and ARB also posted gains above 178%. NEAR rose 131.78%, while SOL, ADA and ETH gained 69.40%, 66.82% and 65.14%, respectively.
That is the backdrop for Pillows’ 91-of-100 observation.
But there is an important catch.
The crypto markets can look healthy on a performance screen while many holders remain below their entry prices.
As of September 23, less than 25% of the circulating supply of the median altcoin was in profit. More than three-quarters therefore remained below their on-chain cost basis.
That creates a useful distinction in the current altcoin story.
A token can be sharply higher over 90 days without having recovered the losses of earlier buyers.
That is why a broad green screen does not automatically mean the market has reached widespread profitability.
The current altseason signal is also not the same as a cycle peak. A rising Altcoin Season Index reflects stronger recent performance against Bitcoin. It does not guarantee that the trend will persist.
For Bitcoin price watchers, the rotation is happening alongside strong institutional demand.
The Bitcoin price held around $84,000 on September 27 even as U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $2.39 billion in weekly inflows through September 25.
That was the strongest weekly total of 2026 and extended the ETF group’s net inflow streak to seven sessions.
The ETF data matters because the wider crypto markets are not moving on altcoin speculation alone. There is also fresh capital flowing into Bitcoin-linked investment products.
That broader demand is showing up elsewhere. XRP reclaimed $1.60 on September 22, reaching an eight-month high, while SoSoValue data showed cumulative XRP ETF inflows of $1.73 billion.
The September 22 session added $20.02 million. Santiment also recorded 1,917 XRP transactions worth at least $100,000 and 3,647 new XRP wallets.
LIT provides another example of the market widening. The token rose 9.34% to $5.17 after Bitwise launched a Lighter staking ETP for European investors on Xetra. The product gives investors another listed route to LIT exposure.
The latest crypto market data points to broader participation. Ninety-one of the top 100 coins being higher over three months is a meaningful change in market breadth.

Still, breadth and profitability are not the same thing.
The Bitcoin price remains the market’s main reference point, while altcoins are starting to contribute more of the performance.
ETF flows, rising altcoin participation, and stronger moves in assets such as XRP and LIT all fit that broader picture. Yet the Glassnode profitability data shows that many holders are still waiting to get back to breakeven.
That makes Pillows’ observation useful for a different reason. It captures what the market looks like now, rather than assuming where it goes next.
The crypto markets have become greener. The harder question is whether the gains can move from price screens into actual recovery for the holders still underwater.
