Quick Take:
- Pi Network asked all Mainnet node operators to upgrade to Protocol 25 before June 18, 2026.
- Nodes that fail to complete the upgrade could lose connection to the Mainnet network.
- Meanwhile, Pi Network coin remains under pressure, trading around $0.1279.
Pi Network news today Pi Core Team has announced that all Mainnet nodes must upgrade to Protocol 25 before June 18, 2026. The announcement came more as a warning that any node that misses the deadline could be disconnected from the network.
The upgrade is part of Pi Network's ongoing effort to strengthen its Mainnet infrastructure. While Pi Network cryptocurrency price is trading around $0.1279.
Pi Network Sets June 18 Deadline for Protocol 25 Upgrade
According to the Pi Core Team, Protocol 25 will become the required version for all Mainnet nodes after June 18.
Any node still running older software may no longer be able to communicate properly with the network. This could lead to synchronization problems, reduced participation, or a complete loss of connection until the upgrade is completed.
Because nodes help validate and support network operations, widespread delays in upgrading could temporarily affect network efficiency.
To avoid disruptions, Pi Network is encouraging operators to update their systems before the cutoff date.
Protocol 25 Is Part of Pi Network's Long-Term Mainnet Plan
The latest release follows the rollout of Protocol 24 and continues Pi Network's planned upgrade path toward Protocol 26.
Unlike some blockchain networks, Pi nodes cannot skip versions. Operators must follow the required upgrade sequence, moving from version 24.1 to version 25.2 before future updates become available.
The Core Team said the migration should be relatively smooth, with most nodes expected to experience less than five minutes of downtime during the process.
However, operators have been advised not to upgrade all nodes at the same time. Instead, they should move traffic to alternative nodes or use Pi's Mainnet API infrastructure while upgrades are being completed.
How Different Node Operators Can Upgrade
The upgrade process depends on the type of node being used. Users running Pi Desktop on Windows or macOS will generally receive the update automatically when the software starts.
Linux users operating through the newer Pi Linux Node CLI may also receive the update automatically if auto-update settings are enabled. Those without automatic updates must manually install the latest version.
Meanwhile, operators running older self-managed Docker containers will need to download the latest Protocol 25 image and restart their services manually.
After completing the upgrade, Pi Network recommends checking the synchronization status to ensure the node is operating correctly.
Pi Network Price Prediction: Will PI Recover?
While the network focuses on infrastructure upgrades, the Pi Network cryptocurrency price continues to face selling pressure.
PI is currently trading around $0.1278 after a prolonged decline. The token is down 10.02% over the past 7 days and 25.82% over the past 30 days. Since the start of the year, PI has fallen 37.03%.
Market analyst True Anonymous noted that the next important support zone is near $0.1295. If buyers manage to defend this area, the Pi Network price could attempt a recovery toward $0.1615 in the coming weeks.
However, a break below support may expose the token to further downside before a stronger recovery can begin.
